This project was an attempt at archiving a space, through the process of recreating it. Working from photographs, I translated a flattened, already-distant record of my childhood home into something dimensional, built in cardboard. I chose the material for its fragility and its accessibility, and because it is what a child would reach for. The act of making became its own small return. Folding and cutting with the same rough logic a child might use, I felt as if proximity to the material could bring me closer to the memory itself. The miniaturisation carries its own sentiment. If I cannot go there, I bring it to me, small enough to hold, close enough to keep. The piece ultimately fails at the one thing it reaches for. It can preserve shape and colour and the rough geometry of rooms. It cannot preserve the feeling of being a child inside them. What remains is not the memory, but the shape memory leaves behind. It is an object built to hold my nostalgia, and it is an admission of what nostalgia cannot be built back into.
